Andrea del Verrocchio (1468)

Almost as tall as a person, this bronze candlestick was made for the reception hall of the town hall in Florence. An inscription on two sides of the base reads MAGGIO E GIUGNO (May and June); on the third is a date in Roman numerals, 1468. The candlestick was made by the famous Florentine artist Andrea del Verocchio (1436-1488).    www.rijksmuseum.nl/
